Centaur Galileo, Sports Betting Hedge Fund Inspired By Mark Cuban, Collapses

That’s a notion with which Tony Woodhams, Centaur’s managing director, previously said he agreed.

Mark Cuban is an undeniable idea machine. At this point, the reason for the fund’s collapse is reportedly still unknown.

Galileo, which required a minimum of roughly $135,000 to be come an investor, used a number crunching system that the m88 founders argued allowed the fund to bet on sports with much more accuracy than the casual gambler, according to the Los Angeles Times.

“We have unique software we’ve written over five years that ensures we purely trade on statistics and probabilities,” Woodhams told CNBC in 2010. It didn’t last very long, however, as the fund appears to have collapsed on Monday, according to Wager Minds. “The question really is, which gives the opportunity for a better outcome?”

“When you think about betting on sports, there really is far better information about your local sports team than there is about any local business in your market. . They are right. The localTV station gives a report about every game. But one of his boldest ideas yet may have proven too hot to handle. The local papers cover the team every day.

Centaur, a London-based investment company, launched its Galileo fund in 2010 based in part because of an idea Cuban proposed in a 2004 blog post — creating a hedge fund that invested in sports bets. Start your workday the right way with the news that matters most.

Financial crisis or not, another study, this one by Princeton researchers, found hedge funds to be “far riskier and provide much lower returns than is commonly supposed.” In other words, lots of the bad stuff without so much of the good.

Though Galileo wasn’t a traditional hedge fund, its collapse may highlight some of the risks inherent in others, which aim for high-risk, high-reward investments, sometimes with large-scale consequences. The fund was regulated by Gibraltar’s government, instead of the British government. A recent paper from two Yale professors found that hedge funds may have played a larger role in the financial crisis than many originally thought. Gambling isgambling [sic],” Cuban wrote in his blog at the time. “The process is very clinical, which is our edge.”

Cuban’s original idea for a fund similar to Galileo revolved around the idea thats sports provided more information to investors than actual American companies. John Paulson’s hedge fund, for one, has been tied to claims that Goldman Sachs purposefully created financial instruments they assumed likely to go bust — and then bet against them. “That’s far better than we get from public companies.”

Despite Woodhams’ confidence, it appears that there may have been some red flags indicating Galileo was headed down a bad path, according to Wager Minds. There areradio stations who cover them for hours at a time [sic],” Cuban added.

“It’s not unusual to hear people refer to trading stocks as no different than going to Vegas. In his blog post, Cuban argued that because the sports betting market is less efficient than other markets, anyone who applied a “smart money” strategy to investing in it would have a good chance at success

Japanese e-commerce giant Rakuten bets big on drones

The company kicked off 2017 by celebrating a world record for the longest drone delivery carried out by its research partner Autonomous Control Systems Laboratory.

CEO Mikitani, who received his graduate degree from Harvard, posted a series of emotional tweets explaining his opposition to Trump’s original executive order on immigration.

In a blog post, Mikitani pledged to support Rakuten’s employees “regardless of their nationality or religion.”

Viber offered to provide free international calls from the U.S.

So committed is Mikitani to going global that he made English the official company language back in 2010.

To boost its global standing, the company inked a multimillion dollar sponsorship deal with FC Barcelona, one of Europe’s most successful football teams, late last year. A couple years ago, the automaker announced plans to switch its official language to English by 2020.

And it was one of many global tech firms who slammed President Trump’s travel ban back in January.

CNNMoney (Hong Kong) First published March 15, 2017: 10:17 PM ET

.

Rakuten is tired of being known as Japan’s answer to the U.S.

CEO Hiroshi “Mickey” Mikitani expects drones to revolutionize the delivery sector.

The move shocked corporate Japan, sparking rare public criticism. With more than 14,000 employees and m88 casino revenue last year of more than $6.8 billion (781.9 billion yen), it is pushing to become a tech giant on the scale of Google (GOOGL, Tech30) or Alibaba (BABA, Tech30).

– Will Ripley and Melissa Hassett contributed to this report. It also made it easier to hire foreigners, a big advantage given Japan’s aging population and shrinking labor pool.

“It is wrong as a human being to uniformally [sic] discriminate based on religion and nationality,” he continued.

The result is a culture that blends corporate Japanese traditions with a Silicon Valley mindset, said CFO Yamada.

Oh, and that executive who called Mikitani’s plan stupid? That was former Honda (HMC) CEO Takanobu Ito.

Rakuten’s commercial drones are modeled on the airframe used in that flight. One fellow CEO called the plan “stupid.”

Nearly seven years later, finance chief Yoshihisa Yamada boasts that Rakuten “is very open, dynamic and diverse.”

Making English the official language helped the company dispense with the honorifics and deference of Japanese.

Trump’s order originally barred citizens from Iraq, Syria, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen from entering the U.S. to countries affected by the immigration ban. Mikitani has not commented on Trump’s revised executive order, which exempts Iraq from the travel ban.

Rakuten takes Japan’s “high quality, really customer-oriented service mind” and mixes it “with the Silicon Valley, little bit techie, dynamic culture,” he told CNNMoney.

Rakuten (RKUNF) this week teamed up with California-based AirMap to develop technology to manage drone traffic in Japan. They hope to allow drones to operate autonomously at low altitude.

Global rival Amazon is also making an aggressive push into drone deliveries.

Related: There is a retail bubble — and it’s bursting

Rakuten is a household name in Japan, but remains relatively unknown elsewhere. The drone flew a container of hot soup 7.4 miles (12 kilometers) to surfers on a beach.

It spent $900 million buying messaging app Viber in 2014, and has also invested in startups such as Pinterest and Lyft.

Will the big game save gaming in Atlantic City?

Atlantic City casino revenue reached a peak of $5.2 billion, and tumbled to $2.86 billion last year nearly two dozen casinos were built within driving distance of the Jersey shore gambling mecca.

Second, as an economic activity, sports betting isn’t a game-changer. The reasons are many. The Trump Taj Mahal has threatened to shut down next month unless it receives concessions from state officials. Florida developer Glen Straub, who submitted the losing bid, is challenging the sale.

But State Senator Raymond Lesniak, an outspoken proponent for sports betting, pushed through a bill this that year that abolished the state’s existing prohibitions against sports betting.

Under a measure New Jersey Gov. Nelson Rose, a professor at Whittier Law School who has written a textbook on gaming law, adding he wasn’t sure if New Jersey’s move will survive a court challenge. and the NCAA have long opposed sports gambling because of fears it would lead to game-fixing. “This whole thing is a snow job.”

A further damper on sports betting profits at Atlantic City casinos is the fact that it’s legal in Delaware and a handful of other states.

Still, sports betting is starting up in New Jersey despite ferocious competition from a number powerful interests. Chris Christie signed into law last week, Atlantic City racetracks and casinos can start accepting sports bets. Over the past few months, operators of the Revel Casino Hotel, which at one time was touted as linchpin of an Atlantic City revival, Trump Plaza and Showboat, closed their doors. Supreme Court refused to hear the state’s appeal, leaving the ban in place.

“I don’t think it’s going to be the lifeline for the casinos,” said Alex Bumazhny, who follows the casino industry for Fitch Ratings, adding that the credit rating agency “doesn’t think it will make a big difference” in Atlantic City.

“Nobody expected such a bizarre move,” said I. Professional sports leagues in the U.S. Despite such concerns, Christie initially moved to permit sports betting in 2011 after voters approved a constitutional amendment to legalize it. The state then eliminated all of its laws outlawing sports betting at tracks and casinos. Casino industry experts have argued that it will be difficult for Brookfield to operate Revel as a casino because it never made a profit.

A lifeguard boat sits on the beach in front of the closed Revel Casino Sept. According to data from the American Gaming Association, a trade group, about $3.4 billion was wagered on sports at casinos in Nevada in 2012, though the total amount generated by the state’s casinos race books was much smaller. For one, the decline of New Jersey’s gaming industry has been years in the making and was hastened when lawmakers in neighboring Pennsylvania, a key Atlantic City market, allowed casino gaming. . 15, 2014 in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Earlier this month, Brookfield Asset Management, owner of Las Vegas’ Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, acquired Revel for $110 million, a fraction of the $2.4 billion to build. But that law comes amid a major slump in gambling in the state.

“The reality is that it’s a big deal for Monmouth Park and that’s it,” said Alan Woinski, the president of Gaming USA, a consulting firm based in Paramus, New Jersey, in an interview, referring to a struggling race track in Oceanport, New Jersey, that under the state’s new law will be able accept sports bets. “This isn’t going to save Atlantic City. Though 44 percent of people surveyed by Rutgers-Eagleton poll thought that sports betting was a positive for Atlantic City, another 48 percent were less sure of its value, while another 31 percent thought it would make no difference. A federal court ruled in the league’s favor, and the U.S. The AGA pegs the gross gaming revenue from sports bets at $170 million, a tiny percentage of the $10.9 billion consumers plunked down fun88 in the state’s casinos in 2012.

The NFL subsequently sued to block the law, claiming that it violated an 1992 federal law that restricted sports betting to four states. There probably isn’t anything that can save Atlantic City.”

Atlantic City’s embattled casino industry, which has lost thousands of jobs this year as money-losing operator shut their doors, shouldn’t expect much of a boost from sports betting, experts say.

Another obstacle is that New Jersey residents are divided over the benefits of sports betting

Best College Football Players of All Time

Charles Woodson (Michigan): In 1997 Woodson won the Heisman trophy playing Iron man for the Wolverines. What a player he was nominated three times for the Heisman winning it once in 2007. John Elway (Stanford): He was an All American in 1982, and finished second in the running for The Heisman Trophy voting that same year. You must have respect because Bo knows multiple sport success. He could run, jump, slide and score like no other quarterback could.

5. Barry Sanders went on to play for the Detroit Lions as a running back and although he never won a Superbowl, he is widely considered one of the top running backs in Detroit Lions history.

2. 88 passing touchdowns, 57 rushing touchdowns and 9, 285 passing yards to go along with 2,947 rushing yards. That is to say he played offense and defense. Walker was a legend in his own time, he was another great and entertaining player. He passed the football for a very high 77 touchdowns and his yards for his four year career were outstanding with 9,349 passing yards.

1. Also, tell me who you think the number 1 player in college football history is.

7. Thorpe had over three thousand yards on the ground, 330 passing yards and over 700 yards in kick off and punt returns.

9. He has played all over the field including running back, punt returner and even quarterback. Bo knows best.

4. Tim Tebow (Florida): The Florida Gators star quarterback has amazing statistics. Doak Walker (Southern Methodist University): In 1948, as a Junior he won the Heisman trophy and was a three time All America which is outstanding. Bo Jackson (Auburn): Bo Jackson won the Heisman trophy in 1985 and he was the consensus All American in 1983 and again in 1985. Walker had over 2,000 rushing and receiving total yards, 14 passing touchdowns and over 1,600 total pass yards.

8. I really enjoyed watching Woodson go on to play for the Oakland Raiders. In the 80s John Elway was a household name. He was a corner back, kick returner and a wide receiver. Jackson had 43 rushing touchdowns and 4,303 total rushing yards in his four year college stint. When he touched the ball you knew great things were going to happen.

3. He is the only Two time Heisman trophy recipient and had some nice stats including 25 rushing scores and over five thousand career rushing yards.

6. He helped Michigan go undefeated and win the National Championship He was a true defensive talent that helped him get 18 interceptions, 395 yards receiving and even two rushing scores. Bo Jackson was fortunate to be a part of the winning Auburn Tigers for the Sugar Bowl and the Liberty Bowl and was the MVP of both football contests. Look at these numbers. Grange had 2,071 rushing yards and over 900 yards from punt and kick off returns. Red passed for 575 yards and tossed three touch downs.. He won the Maxwell Award and he played lots of positions which is amazing. Barry Sanders (Oklahoma State): He easily won the Heisman trophy in 1986 while rushing for 2,628 yards. He rushed for 5, 259 yards in his three year NCAA playing days. Archie Griffin (Ohio State): Griffin had a banner Junior year rushing for 1,695 yards and scored a total of 12 touch downs in 1974. Red Grange (Illinois): Grange won All American honors three years in a row. In 1923, he won, The Helms Athletic Foundation Championship. Jim Thorpe (Carlisle Indian): In 1911 and 1912 he was an All American and he led his team to a National Championship in 1912. He was a corner back and knocked downed lots of football passes and made lots of interceptions as well.

10. He could do amazing thing when he touched a football.

Please feel free to leave comments in the comments box at the bottom of this page because I love reading others’ opinions. He won the Holiday Bowl and had nice stats including: 3,556 rushing yards, 47 TD’s and over 1,400 yards from punt and kick returns. He led his team to National Championships in 2006 and 2008. Tim Tebow was one of my favorite college players to watch play. He won the Heisman trophy in 1982 and he helped to defeat Notre Dame to win the Sugar Bowl. He also had 49 rushing touchdowns. He was a half back, defensive back, kicker and punter. Herschel Walker (Georgia): Walker had statistics that can not be denied when he was the half back for the Georgia Bulldogs. He played wide receiver and quarterback on occasion

Top 10 Reasons Why MLB Sucks

Maybe its boring, maybe there are no role models, maybe they have no place to play? For whatever reason there has been a lost link, and it shows.

#5 Boring Commentary

The T.V.

It all goes to say, baseball has lost the interest of the African-American community. But without a doubt he wanted to be a Red, even though they were horrible. The free agent market paired with large market clubs will snuff out any such chances of restoring that to baseball. It let’s good hitter loose empasis on defense, and it takes away from the original nature of the game. Hitters have developed, even without the use of human growth hormones, the art of hitting a round ball with a round stick squarely has become a science. The small market teams will never hold onto a franchise player, and this hurts the fanbase. The Yankees payroll is out of control! Lucky for us the remaining fans that talent and money doesn’t always win championships. Pitching is relatively the same. Too many prospects are being forced up too early. It’s a joke that MLB pulled in order to do away with having pitchers go to the plate and flail out the ball in crucial parts of the game. To me that is a player that should get to stay wherever he wants, and the MLB market should be to a point that some salary could be eatin’ by the Reds to ensure the Hall of Famer goes out exactly as he wanted to go. The purity of the sport is not represented at the Major League level. These types of players survive their MLB bootcamp with Kansas City or the Reds and then after those teams can no longer afford them they have them well groomed for the “big money franchises.” The rich get richer, the poor keep calling up rookies!

#10-The players are overpaid. Even the struggling Reds lost Ken Griffey Jr., no he is not a franchise player for Cincinnati. ratings are falling because people would rather watch people drive around in a circle at high rates of speed then listen to another has-been drooling all over the microphone about baseball. The only thing that makes it bearable for a fan is they are in third place, and they haven’t had a World Series monopoly. But somewhere between being a kid that loves the game and being an adult who gets paid to play the game a transformation happens. There isn’t a whole lot more coaches can do to teach players to throw 100 mph. The problems are many for this little pickle the MLB has put itself in. Ole’ George will do whatever it takes to win because he loses so grasiously. Too much controversey for the fair weather fan, they are probably Nascar fans now. . I like the commentary, but it isn’t exciting television.

#8 No Salary Cap

This is a problem. League expansion is a cluster of uncanny proportions. I love the game. Your best 9 against my best 9, everybody hits!

#3 George Steinbrenner

Don’t get me started on this figure. MLB has been slow to move on this, but some initiatives are starting to funnel money back into developing solid inner city youth baseball programs. Pitching is usually something you have that is innate and polished, hitting can be developed and is so more effectively in all the ametuer ranks of baseball. The double switch, the bunt, and the art of the pitcher moving a runner over. Baseball has a unique dynamic that is referred to as chemistry, and it isn’t for sale!

#4 Free Agency and the Death of the Franchise Player

Free agency is a curse! This has destroyed the franchise player. Now we have records that are going to have undeniable question marks beside them. This is the shoot’em up Nintendo generation here that we are trying to interest in our beloved sport. I am a teacher of the game at many different levels. There are fewer African-American playing the game of baseball today then in the 70′s. I know the revenue sharing scam that MLB has put into place to hush up the small teams enough for them to keep a star of two, but this is out of control what these players make. This of course helps prepare them for free agency. Here are my top reasons why…

#2 The Designated Hitter

The designated hitter was devised in 1979 by the American League to up attendance and run production…blah..blah..blah. At least Jeff Gordon’s helmet size didn’t grow two sizes in a single season.

Counting Down the Downfall of Baseball

I am a baseball fan first and foremost. The already thin pitching talent being spread across the league to play in empty stadiums. He is the anti-christ of the purist movement. And the small teams get hit the hardest..these teams survive by calling up the next great hope from AA or AAA to fill a gap. Baseball hasn’t been able to appeal to elite African-American atheletes. He has publicity stunts that take the focus off the game, and puts on a show for our young adoring fans about the urgency to win, and gives them a seminar on the art of whining about losing. For a purist of the game the DH opened a window for a single tool baseball player to make it to the bigs. He put up Hall of Fame numbers while in Seattle. But no the franchise players are as dead as the suicide squeeze in the MLB. Spice it up a little bit, if Golf can up their ratings due to Tiger and a few dicy commentators..what is MLB or the broadcast networks doing to change it up?

#7 No Parity in the League

Parity is defined as:equality, as in amount, status, or character. Where did these types of pitchers go? The intimidators, not on roids –I might add –where are they in the league. Maybe the other 9 reasons the MLB sucks has something to do with it!

#6 Pitching

Now that Nolan and the Goose have hung up their cleats who is left to make these lumber lugging neanderthals look retarded at the plate. They give the poor kid a cap and a prayer and send him out there to compete.

#9 Too Many Tampered Seasons

This blemish dates all the way back to the Sox throwing the World Series. You can find it the dictionary, but don’t look for it MLB clubhouses. The head of the Yankee player monopoly will pout until he wins another World Series. So how does pitching get back to where it was..Let’s start a couple more expansion teams..that will fix it. Contemporary craziness is Pete Rose betting on baseball, strikes, and now the “roid rage.” There are just too many factors to list! It just well…sucks! The game has been tarnished in so many ways. Or heaven forbid, my favorite argument, a picher that might be able to hit (Babe Ruth ring a bell). They also forgot that it took away some fundamental aspects of managing. This is what happens without a salary cap. With no salary cap Major League Baseball has let a whiny bunch of babies be the face of the organization. Granted there are some hard nosed athletes which could be considered baseball purist still around, but the Mark Graces of the World are few and far between.

#1 Loss of the Inner City Development

Just when you thought I had nothing intelligent to say: The main reason that Major League Baseball is below average is because the inner cities do not produce baseball players like they have in the past

Alabama’s Nick Saban says satellite camps are ‘bad for college football’

It would be similar to pro days for juniors and seniors and would allow NFL scouts to better evaluate those players.

. And who gets exposed on that? I go to a camp and talk to some guy I don’t know from Adam’s house cat, and he’s representing some kid cause he’s putting a camp on, and then I’m in trouble for talking to this guy.”

“Until this satellite camp issue came up, you still had to go to the high school, go through the coach, and players came to your camp if they were interested in learning,” Saban said. Then you’re expected to go to that camp and they can use you to promote their camp because Ohio State is coming, Alabama is coming, whoever else is coming.

Saban has never been a fan of satellite camps, characterizing them as “ridiculous.”

Florida coach Jim McElwain has a unique perspective because 10 of the SEC’s other 13 schools participate in satellite camps in the Sunshine State.

“Creating all these third parties. We have to worry about our players doing the right things with the limited time we have them, but we’re not going to do that because we have to be somewhere else to see someone else.”

“It’s bad for college football,” Saban said.

MIRAMAR BEACH, Florida — Alabama¬†coach Nick Saban made one thing crystal clear Tuesday at the SEC spring meetings: He is not a fan of satellite camps.

“I don’t have a candidate,” Saban said. But what’s best for the game of college football. We want accurate information when that’s all said and done in December.”

Among other topics Saban touched upon Tuesday, he said he would like to see underclassmen who leave school early have the option of returning after testing their prospects for the NFL draft, similar to what happens in college basketball.

“This is the wild, wild West at its best.

Saban was asked whom he would want as commissioner.

“Why should we be promoting anybody else’s camp anywhere? All we’re doing is allowing all these other people that we spend all of our time at the NCAA saying you can’t recruit through a third-party person, and that’s exactly what you’re doing.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report. There needs to be a [college football] commissioner.”

“All the people that say this is creating opportunities for kids, this is all about recruiting,” Saban said.

Under current NCAA rules, once underclassmen declare for the NFL draft, they lose their remaining eligibility.

“If you ask the NFL, ‘How can we maintain trust with our players when you’re giving us inaccurate information?’ their response is, ‘We don’t know enough about the guys to really give you the information, because all we can really go on is film evaluation,’” Saban said at the SEC annual meetings. It’s happening outside the normal evaluation window, which means we’re taking time away from our players. There have been no specific guidelines relative to how we’re managing control of this stuff. However, in April the NCAA overturned the ban and ruled that satellite camps would be allowed.

McElwain obviously would prefer that other schools didn’t recruit in Florida, but he knows that’s not realistic.

“I’m not blaming Jim Harbaugh,” Saban said. “By doing what we’re doing now, we’re doing what we do in every other sport that we’re complaining about every day — AAU basketball and all this.

Saban also questioned who keeps track of whether players paid for the camps and what, if any, compliance people are involved.

Saban and Arkansas’ Bret Bielema believe a combine for underclassmen could help solve the problem. There needs to be somebody who looks out for what’s best for the game, not the SEC or the Big Ten or Jim Harbaugh. “That’s what it’s about.

“Someone sponsors the camp, they pay them the money. Now who does that? Now because we have the Power 5, everyone is doing what they want. “I’m saying it’s bad for college football. That’s bigger than all this. What do they do with the money? And who makes sure the kid paid to go to camp?

“They should come [to Florida],” McElwain said. “I’m not into politics.”

Saban has the opposite viewpoint on satellite camps as Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh, who has embraced them like no other coach.

The SEC had banned its coaches from participating in satellite camps, and the NCAA followed with a satellite-camp ban. Harbaugh can do whatever he wants to do if he thinks that’s what’s best. The integrity of the game.

“The coaches, players and people who play it. If they have a prospect, they can have a camp. “It’s as good of [high school] football as there is in the country.”

After initially saying he would not discuss satellite camps, Saban went off in a five-minute rant that would have made Howard Beale proud, comparing the satellite camps to “the wild, wild West.”

Saban blasted satellite camps because they incorporate third parties into recruiting and there aren’t any guidelines.

“Anybody can have a camp now. “That’s why we have a combine and all these other things

Football Betting To Win by Woz Salmon

This means that if location fails on any single point, you have not found a “star” property. A gamble need not involve another party, but a bet most certainly does. Note that not all gambles are bets. In respect to the latter, remember that the three prime considerations to ensure a first-class investment are Location, Location and Location. . To be able to bet requires two parties: the party placing the bet and the party accepting the bet. Both the acceptance of the need for a worthwhile Betting Strategy and the will to apply it properly must emanate from within you. Consequently, at the end of each season, the majority of football bettors are poorer than when they started. As you can see, therefore, all the foregoing are forms of gambling, no matter that some people may attempt to draw dividing lines between them to make their preferred form of gambling more socially acceptable.

The only way to guarantee a sure-fire win for yourself when gambling is if you could place a bet on a 100% certainty carrying a 100% commitment of being paid when you win. You can’t buy a good Betting Strategy, although it may well be true that the individual components themselves can be purchased.

To achieve even a modest return on your bets, you need to develop a worthwhile Betting Strategy for yourself.

It seems that a majority of bettors would be happy to achieve a small overall return on their bets by the end of a sporting season, generally because the alternative is to sail too close to the wind too often and be in constant danger of losing their entire bank. The sad truth, though, is that most bettors fail to achieve even that modest aim, mainly because their betting is not based on sound principles. For example, you gamble not-so-obviously (and do not bet) whenever you lay out money in the simple hope of retaining your wealth (such as buying a house or putting your savings into a higher paying deposit account) and rather more obviously when you attempt to increase your wealth by investing in shares (again not a bet) or by participating in sports betting. The main point here is that a bet is just one particular form of gambling, and it’s only the degree of risk that varies from one gamble to another. This is because the phrase “to take a gamble” generally means to risk something valuable in order to gain something of even greater value, and where the outcome is uncertain to some degree or other. In view of this, I am now going to make what I consider to be the single most important statement in respect to “Betting to Win”:

As playing roulette will show you (because inherently it doesn’t allow the possibility of a Selection System to operate, since any given number or colour can come up at any time), very few Staking Plans on their own will consistently allow you to increase the amount you started with (meaning that you are simply in the hands of Lady Luck on the night). There is a very similar rule applicable to betting: before you gamble, the three most important considerations should be Selection, Selection and Selection!

A worthwhile Betting Strategy incorporates both a reliable Selection System and a sound Staking Plan.

So that you can emerge as a winner, I strongly recommend that you should approach football betting just as seriously as you would when investing in shares or a house purchase. A bet is a gamble based on the possibility of a particular event occurring or having occurred.

Each type of gamble has its own unwritten rules attached, all of which need to be both understood and followed if the specific gambling objective is to be achieved.

Now, before we discuss “betting to win” in more detail, let’s begin by examining what a “bet” actually is. Once you have acknowledged that satisfying such a need is vital to your betting success, you then have to work hard at (i) finding a good Selection System and (ii) deciding upon an appropriate Staking Plan that best suits your particular style and budget (and which won’t bankrupt you – because many have the potential to do so). Let’s face it though – that scenario will never arise in your entire lifetime!

All too often, bets are placed on “gut feel”, and frequently for wildly varying stakes (as opposed to “fixed” (or “level”) stakes, without proper assessment of the chances of winning, or without adequate consideration as to how a loss will affect the bettor’s bank.

When it comes to gambling on the outcome of sporting events, every well-balanced person will readily acknowledge that it is not worth risking all their funds on one single bet, as they could very easily end up with no funds at all. This principle applies whether or not the odds are in the bettor’s favour

Weight Training for Wrestling by Dickie White

As wrestlers we know the truth- nothing replaces good old fashioned hard work. Oftentimes people are after the next greatest thing. But believe me, this isn’t the focus of the weight training for wrestling plans I have my wrestlers use. I know, I post them from time to time. These percentages and 2 more weeks of this program are included as one of 4 free gifts for signing up for my newsletter at http://www.wrestler-power.com

Cable Row- 3×10

First, a great majority, especially those at the collegiate level, are basically offshoots of the football weight training program. However these weight training for wrestling plans consist of exercises with sandbags, kettlebells, tires, kegs, thick reps, and a lot of other training tools that most wrestler don’t have access to. While there are some similarities, football players should be more focused on developing absolute strength, whereas wrestlers should focus their weight training on relative strength and power (strength per bodyweight).

Dumbbell Incline Bench- 4×8

Dips- 3×10

Deadlift- 5×5

The other day I was fortunate enough to have former Cornell Wrestling Strength Coach, Tom Dilliplane, send me a copy of his 16-week summer program. As the sport of wrestling continues to grow (with at least some thanks going to the increasing popularity of MMA), weight training for wrestling has become a very sought after. Look at all the infomercials out there for the “next biggest thing in fat loss” or whatever. In addition, Tom used similar types of programs for the 10+ years he was at Cornell working with the wrestlers. Sticking to the tried and true barbell and dumbbell exercises that have withstood the test of time is what’s going to lead to the best results with your weight training for wrestling plan. While some would say the program looked boring and repetitive (you would not believe the repetition of such exercises as the Bench Press, Squats, High Pulls, Weighted Pullups, and other exercises that many may consider to be plain and boring but obviously get the job done) the fact of the matter is this- it works. There are two major issues that I’ve seen with weight training for wrestling programs in my years of experience.

Alternate Dumbbell Bench- 3×10

Weighted Pullups- 3×10

Please note that Tom bases all of his core movements (Squat, Bench, Clean, Deadlift, etc.) off of percentages of your max. would be using them already? Anyway, that’s enough, lets get into some weight training for wrestling plans.

Superset- Squat 4×8 and Dumbbell Walking Lunge 3×8

Second, there are a few systems and programs that are available that are absolutely fantastic. While I do believe that these are great ways to bridge the gap between traditional weight room strength and functional wrestling strength (I use them myself often with my wrestlers), I also understand that a majority of wrestlers reading this article do not have access to this type of equipment. This is the exact program he used over the summer of 2009, the summer before Cornell placed 2nd at Nationals and had 2 National Finalists. Additionally, I think it’s worth considering the fact that if these new age styles of training were so groundbreaking and effective, don’t you think all the big wrestling schools like Iowa, Cornell, Iowa State, etc. And that should be the same way you approach yourweight training for wrestling. So for those of you who aren’t fortunate to workout at a well-equipped hardcore gym, keep reading, I have some great news for you…

Day 4 Weight Training for Wrestling . “Hardcore” equipment like this exists at underground gyms and training facilities and if you’re a member of one of those, there’s a good chance you already have someone helping you with your training
